Back in July, Olivia and I had finished our regional work (umm, hello second year visa!) and hopped the state line from Victoria to New South Wales, heading back to Sydney for a celebration. This trip was special for a number of reasons; our visas had just been granted, it was my 23rd birthday and most excitingly – *cries* – my parents were flying to the other side of the earth to visit us after ten months.
It was so lovely to experience the city where we started our Aussie adventure at a totally different time of year, in fact the Sydney ‘winter’ was a welcome change from Melbourne’s temperamental four seasons in a day. The bright, fresh days made for perfect sightseeing with not a drop of rain in sight- we even managed to dip our toes in the ocean… in winter! I know I’ve been here for almost a year now, but beach days in winter are still a total novelty to a sun-starved Brit like me.
In our three weeks, we hit the ground running; coastal walks, touring art galleries, whale watching out at sea, wine tasting in the Hunter Valley, indulging in a little retail therapy and eating enough good food for a lifetime. Seriously, very tight pants situation when we got back. It reminded me just how much I loved living in Sydney, and even though I consider myself an honorary Melburnian now, I’ll always have a soft spot for this amazing city.
